Wet weather
Our thoughts are with everyone who has been affected by the recent flooding, its scale was both dramatic and terrifying. At the time of writing, it appears that it may not be over as more rain is forecast.
If you or your business has been affected by the flooding, the first priority is to make sure that you and those around you are safe. From a financial perspective, IRD have already indicated that if you are affected by flooding, they will be lenient about payment dates for tax. Likewise, banks are coming out and saying that they will also be supportive. But there will be time to sort this out in the coming days and weeks.
If you have been affected by the flooding, please get in touch, we will do whatever we can to assist.
Picking trends
This is the time of year that many pundits gaze into the crystal ball and try to predict what will come over the next year or 2. While this may be a fools’ errand, one theme which seems to be picking up pace is AI or artificial intelligence. You may not even realise it, but you’re probably interacting with some of these systems on a daily basis. These technologies are evolving rapidly, so expect that we will see more of them over the coming months.
One of the applications that has garnered a lot of recent interest is Chat GPT, as it has a remarkable ability to produce all manner of content incredibly quickly. To give it a whirl, this is exactly what I asked it: “write me a newsletter about AI and GPT”. Below was its response:
Hello and welcome to our newsletter about Artificial Intelligence and GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer).
AI is rapidly becoming a part of our everyday lives, from virtual assistants like Siri and Alexa to self-driving cars. One of the most exciting developments in AI is the emergence of language models like GPT.
GPT is a type of AI model that is trained on a massive amount of text data. It is able to understand and generate human-like language, making it capable of a wide range of tasks such as language translation, text summarization, and conversation.
One of the most impressive things about GPT is its ability to generate creative content such as stories, poems, and jokes. This has the potential to revolutionize the field of content creation, making it faster and more efficient.
But GPT is not only restricted to creative content, it can also be used in more practical applications such as chatbots, automated writing, and language understanding.
GPT is also able to continue learning and updating itself, which means it will continue to improve over time. This is a huge advantage over traditional AI models that require manual updates.
AI and GPT are still in its early days, but we are already seeing the incredible potential they hold. We are excited to see what the future holds for these technologies, and we will keep you updated on all the latest developments.
Thanks for reading, and stay tuned for more updates on AI and GPT!
These technologies WILL affect every industry – now’s a great time to consider how it will (or already is) affecting yours – how can you use it?
What happens when you don’t pay taxes?
Finally, after a brief Covid induced hiatus, IRD have ramped up their recovery activities, including commencing liquidations and pursuing prosecutions. Here’s a recent case of someone who was a little reckless with business money.
Court proceedings are a last resort for IRD. If you are behind with IRD (or any other creditors), the best thing to do is to seize the initiative and put a plan in place to catch up. If you need assistance getting your debts under control, get in contact.
Have a great December, and festive season!
